For the sample, its chemical composition needs to meet following conditions: Si content is less than 1.00%, Mn content is less than 2.00%, P content is less than 0.05%, S content is less than 0.030%, Ni content is between 8.00 and 10.50%, Cr content is 18.00 and 20.00%, copper content is between 2.00 and 3.00%, titanium content is not than 0.75%, nitrogen content is not more than 0.10%, copper content is also not more than 0.75%, and rest is iron. In contrast, the counterfeit 304 stainless steel may have different chemical compositions, so by precisely measuring the content of these elements, it is possible to identify whether the material is genuine 304 stainless steel.

Gine 304 stainless steel exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, while counterfeit 304 stainless steel may have a tendency to corrode to varying degrees.
