What Are the Conditions for Bright Annealing of 304 Stainless Steel Pipes?
Bright annealing is an essential heat treatment process to ensure the surface smoothness, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of 304 stainless steel pipes. To achieve an oxide-free and mirror-bright surface, a series of strict process conditions including furnace tightness, temperature, air pressure and protective atmosphere must be fully controlled. The standard conditions for bright annealing of 304 stainless steel pipes are summarized as follows.
1. Furnace Tightness
The bright annealing process must be completely isolated from outside air. All furnace valves shall be tightly closed to prevent air penetration. When hydrogen is used as the protective gas, only one exhaust port is reserved, and all other positions must be fully sealed to avoid surface oxidation and discoloration of the pipes.
2. Internal Water Vapor Control
Excessive water vapor inside the furnace will cause annealing defects and surface discoloration. It is necessary to ensure that both the furnace interior and the incoming 304 stainless steel pipes are completely dry, with no residual moisture or water accumulation, so as to guarantee stable annealing quality.
3. Stable Positive Pressure Inside the Furnace
To prevent air leakage from tiny gaps, the protective gas inside the furnace must maintain a stable positive pressure. When hydrogen is adopted as the protective medium, the internal pressure should be kept above 20 kBar, which effectively isolates external air and ensures a stable annealing environment.
4. Accurate Annealing Temperature Range
Bright annealing of 304 stainless steel pipes adopts solution heat treatment with a standard temperature range of 1040℃ to 1120℃. Through the furnace observation window, qualified annealing status can be judged: the pipes present an even incandescent state without softening, sagging or deformation, which optimizes the internal metallographic structure of the steel pipes.
5. High-purity Protective Atmosphere
Pure hydrogen is the preferred protective atmosphere for bright annealing, with the purity required to be nearly 100%. Excessive oxygen and water vapor are strictly prohibited inside the furnace, as impurities will cause oxidation, surface dullness and reduced corrosion resistance, directly determining the final quality of annealed 304 stainless steel pipes.
